An exciting opportunity exists for a highly experienced Senior Attorney – Derivatives / ISDA Specialist to join a sophisticated commodities trading environment in a fully remote capacity.
Our client seeks a commercially astute legal professional with extensive experience in Banking & Finance law, particularly in ISDA negotiation and derivatives documentation, who can independently manage complex negotiations from inception to execution.
This role is ideally suited to a senior professional who can operate autonomously, engage confidently with global counterparties, and provide expert legal support across complex derivatives transactions.
Key Responsibilities
ISDA Documentation & Negotiation
- Independently draft, review, negotiate, and execute ISDA Master Agreements, Schedules, Credit Support Annexes (CSAs), and Guarantees
- Take full ownership of the documentation lifecycle from drafting through negotiation, execution, and ongoing maintenance
- Lead complex negotiations with counterparties and external legal representatives
- Ensure timely execution and enforceability of legal agreements
Derivatives & Commodities Support
- Provide specialist legal documentation support relating to commodities trading activities
- Align negotiated documentation with trading strategies and operational requirements
- Partner closely with front-office and trading teams to support onboarding and transaction execution
Risk, Legal & Regulatory Compliance
- Identify and mitigate legal, operational, and credit risks within derivatives documentation
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory frameworks and internal governance requirements
- Collaborate with risk and credit teams regarding collateral structures and guarantees
Stakeholder Management
- Engage with internal stakeholders across Legal, Risk, Credit, Operations, and Front Office teams
- Serve as a key contact for counterparties throughout negotiation processes
- Provide expert legal guidance on derivatives and trading documentation matters
Process Optimisation
- Drive best practices in legal documentation and negotiation workflows
- Improve efficiency, turnaround times, and standardisation of templates and negotiation frameworks
- Support process enhancements within documentation management
Minimum Requirements
Experience
- 7–10 years’ post article experience in Banking & Finance gained within a large, reputable law firm
- Extensive experience in derivatives documentation and ISDA negotiations
- Proven end-to-end ISDA negotiation experience (non-negotiable)
- Strong working knowledge of:
- ISDA Master Agreements
- Credit Support Annexes (CSAs)
- Guarantees
- Ability to work independently in a senior legal capacity
- Exposure to commodities trading environments advantageous
- Familiarity with:
- GMRA (Global Master Repurchase Agreements)
- GMSLA (Global Master Securities Lending Agreements)
Key Skills & Competencies
- Deep technical understanding of the ISDA documentation framework
- Strong negotiation and contract management capabilities
- Commercial awareness within derivatives and commodities markets
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to manage multiple high-volume negotiations simultaneously
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision

Qualifications
- Admitted Attorney (Essential)
- BCom LLB (Essential)
- Postgraduate legal qualification advantageous
