Introduction

A well-established Legal Services Provider in Cape Town is seeking a driven Labour Law Associate to join their team.

This role is ideal for a motivated legal professional with a strong background in labour law, who is passionate about delivering practical legal advice, dispute resolution, and client-focused service.

The successful candidate will provide legal support to policy holders through consultations, mediation, drafting, and advisory services, ensuring matters are resolved efficiently and amicably.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Advisory & Client Support

  • Provide professional legal advice to policy holders
  • Conduct consultations (telephonic, written, and in-person)
  • Interpret and apply labour law principles to individual cases
  • Deliver clear legal opinions and guidance

Labour Law & Dispute Resolution

  • Handle labour-related matters, including disciplinary and dispute processes
  • Facilitate informal mediation and negotiations
  • Assess merits of cases for legal advice and litigation cover eligibility

Drafting & Documentation

  • Draft warning letters, settlement agreements, referrals, and legal correspondence
  • Prepare legal documents, representations, and reports
  • Maintain accurate and comprehensive file notes and records

Case & File Management

  • Manage and administer a high-volume caseload
  • Provide regular feedback and progress updates to policy holders
  • Ensure proper diary management and adherence to deadlines
  • Maintain compliance with legal and internal policies

Compliance & Administration

  • Ensure adherence to legal, claims, and policy requirements
  • Verify policy payment history and eligibility
  • Follow rejection and exclusion procedures
  • Collaborate effectively with internal departments and support staff

Research & Continuous Improvement

  • Conduct legal research to remain updated on current labour legislation
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of processes and service delivery

Minimum Requirements

Qualifications:

  • LLB Degree
  • Admission as an Attorney or Advocate (advantageous)

Experience:

  • Minimum 2+ years’ post-articles experience in Labour Law
  • Experience within a legal services or advisory environment

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong labour law knowledge and application
  • Excellent drafting and legal writing skills
  • Ability to provide legal advice in Afrikaans (essential)
  • Proficiency in at least two official South African languages
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • High level of attention to detail and accuracy
  • Ability to work independently and take initiative
  • Strong administrative and organisational skills
  • Fully computer literate
