Sage X3 Developer / Functional Consultant – Pretoria, Hybrid
Job Description
Our client is a leading technology solutions provider delivering ERP, Business Intelligence, Cloud Services, and IT Optimisation solutions across South Africa.
They are seeking a highly skilled Sage X3 Developer / Functional Consultant to join their enterprise systems team in a hybrid role based in Pretoria.
This is a senior, hybrid technical-functional role suited to a professional who thrives at the intersection of ERP development, business analysis, and solution architecture.
Role Overview
As the Sage X3 Subject Matter Expert, you will take ownership of the full ERP solution lifecycle, including:
- Requirements gathering
- Functional configuration
- Custom development
- System integration
- Reporting & business intelligence
- User support and optimisation
You will work closely with stakeholders across finance, supply chain, and manufacturing, ensuring scalable, efficient ERP solutions that drive business performance.
Key Responsibilities
Technical Development & Programming
- Develop and customise Sage X3 using 4GL programming language
- Build custom screens, scripts, workflows, and objects
- Manage SQL Server databases, including stored procedures, triggers, and performance tuning
- Develop reports using Crystal Reports and Sage X3 reporting tools
- Manage integrations via Web Services (REST / SOAP / API / JSON / XML)
- Apply patches, upgrades, and system enhancements
Functional Consulting & Business Analysis
- Gather and translate business requirements into ERP functional specifications
- Configure Sage X3 modules:
- Finance (GL, AP, AR, Fixed Assets)
- Distribution (Sales, Purchasing, Inventory)
- Manufacturing (BOM, MRP, Production)
- Conduct process mapping (As-Is / To-Be)
- Lead User Acceptance Testing (UAT) and validation
- Provide end-user training and documentation
Support, Optimisation & Stakeholder Engagement
- Provide advanced troubleshooting and system support
- Act as escalation point for complex technical issues
- Engage with stakeholders and manage expectations professionally
- Drive ERP optimisation and continuous improvement
- Balance short-term support (“firefighting”) with long-term system scalability
Minimum Requirements
- 3–5+ years Sage X3 (Enterprise Management) experience
- Proven experience in Sage X3 4GL development
- Strong SQL Server / database management experience
- Advanced Crystal Reports / reporting tools experience
- Experience with ERP integrations (API / REST / SOAP / JSON / XML)
- Experience across Finance, Distribution or Manufacturing modules
- Proven experience in full ERP implementation lifecycle
- Ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
Preferred Experience
- Sage X3 V12 upgrades / migrations
- Sage Enterprise Intelligence (SEI) or Power BI / Tableau
- Manufacturing or Supply Chain industry experience
- Agile / Scrum methodology
- Sage certifications
